“Kosher” glossy magazine for girls appears in Petersburg
The first “kosher” glossy magazine for Jewish girls and women with the name “Eden” has appeared in St. Petersburg. The idea for this format was thought up by a teacher at the “Menahem” Jewish school, Rivka Goldenberg. Rivka has a daughter, and she decided she didn't want her to get information from ordinary glossy magazines for teenagers, which are full of headlines like “How to steal your best friend's boyfriend”, and “How to walk all over your parents”.
“Eden” magazine comes out monthly, and so far only exists in an Internet version.
The traditional “Love Story” section for teenage magazines is replaced by “Mazl Tov” in the kosher magazine, where young Jewish women tell how they met their future husbands. There is also a cooking section, and a section with advise on fashion and make-up provided by leading Petersburg specialists. But it's all modest and without vulgarity.
Up until now, the only “glossy” Jewish magazine for women in the CIS was published in Lugansk under the patronage of the Rabanit Hana Gopin. “Jewish Women's World” was published in printed form and was available on subscription for all Jewish communities in the CIS.
