Barbra Streisand confirms title of most successful female singer in the world
Barbra Streisand’s latest album “Partners”, released in September 2014, has sold over 1 million copies and been declared platinum. This is the 31st album by the singer to achieve such sales heights – a number no other woman in recording history has ever achieved.
Additionally, “Partners” makes Streisand the first artist whose albums have headed the Billboard 200 hit parade six decades in a row, from the 1960s to the 2010s. This is also the singer’s 33rd album to make it into the Top 10 on the US charts – only Frank Sinatra previously achieved this milestone.
Barbra Streisand has also set several more records. She is the only artist to win an Oscar, Golden Globe, Tony, Emmy, Grammy and Director’s Guild Awards of America, and is also the best-selling female recording artist in history, with over 72 million albums sold worldwide. She is the only woman to make the All-Time Top 10 Best Selling Artists list.
Barbra Streisand was born in Brooklyn into a Jewish family of immigrants from Austria. Throughout her entire musical career she has recorded over 60 albums.
