Israeli president favors de-occupation of the Crimea

Revulin Rivlin holds meeting with Pyotr Poroshenko

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko have pushed for the immediate de-occupation of the Crimea and the restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty on the peninsula. The heads of state announced this during Poroshenko’s official visit to Israel.

“The Ukrainian President informed the Israeli President about the ominous development of the situation in Donbass. Both presidents confirmed the need for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, and also pushed for the immediate de-occupation of the Crimea and the restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty on the peninsula,” Poroshenko’s press service reported.

Poroshenko also expressed the hope that the amount of Israeli investments in the Ukrainian economy would increase significantly, and also assured Rivlin that Ukraine was prepared to help Israeli companies wishing to enter the Ukrainian market.

During the meeting, Poroshenko and Rivlin discussed the further development of relations between Ukraine and Israel, and also paths for increasing interaction of the two countries in solving relevant international problems.

Rivlin thanked the Ukrainian people for the great contribution of immigrants from Ukraine to the development of the State of Israel.

“The future inspires us to remember the lessons of the past,” he said, and recalled his teacher Zeev Zhabotinsky, who was born in Odessa.

Additionally, the heads of state confirmed their common interest in development bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic, scientific research, tourism and humanitarian spheres.

At the end of the meeting, Poroshenko invited the Israeli president to visit Ukraine in 2016.

The Ukrainian president was on an official visit to Israel which ended on 23 December.
