Israelis to hold rally in support of Savchenko outside Russian embassy

Israeli activists will hold a rally in support of the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko outside the Russian embassy in Tel-Aviv. The event will begin on 26 January at 6:30 p.m.

The administrator of the group “Israel Supports Ukraine” on Facebook, Diana Sand, told JewishNws that the idea came from Savchenko’s lawyers, who called on the entire international community to support their client.

“We know from our own experience about terror, kidnapping citizens and detaining them, so we want to express our position to Russia personally,” said Diana Sand.

She also said that Israeli activists were keeping their fingers on the pulse and would continue to fight together with Ukraine.

The national deputy of Ukraine and deputy of the Supreme Rada in the Parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe Nadezhda Savchenko has been on a hunger strike for 32 days in a solitary cell of a Moscow pretrial detention center. She is charged with the murder of the Russian journalist Andrei Stenin. Savchenko believes she was wrongfully arrested. Her lawyers say that during the hunger strike, she has lost 10 kilograms and “doesn’t look so good.”
