On August 30, the temporary photo exhibition “THE UKRAINIAN SHTETL: RETURNING TO PLACES OF STRENGTH” opened at the Museum “The Memory of the Jewish People and the Holocaust in Ukraine,” with the support of the United Jewish Community of Ukraine. The museum reported this.
The exhibition was created by Professor Yevhen Kotliar, an art historian, corresponding member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, and chair of the Academic Council of the Ukrainian Association for Jewish Studies. During the opening, the museum’s director, Dr. Iryna Radchenko, welcomed the participants and introduced the project’s creator.
Kotliar said the photo project focuses on the search for meaning, memory, and roots, as well as places that are disappearing. According to him, the exhibition consists of more than twenty photographs and photomontages created from material gathered during trips to the former Jewish towns of Ukraine over more than twenty years.
The exhibition will be on display at the museum through October 14, 2026. It can be visited on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
