A delegation of researchers and Jewish community leaders recently visited the Vinnytsia Holocaust Museum. It included Professor Vladimir Levin, director of the Center for Jewish Art at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The visit was reported by the Chesed Emuna Jewish charity center. Levin was joined at the museum by Vitaliy Kamozin, executive director of the United Jewish Community of Ukraine, and Yevhenii Schneider, a Judaic studies graduate, researcher of Jewish history, local historian, and editor-in-chief of the Jewish Towns of Ukraine project.
The guests were introduced to exhibition materials covering the period of the Nazi occupation of the region, including the occupation of Vinnytsia in September 1941. Vladimir Levin took particular interest in the ritual artifacts from the collection of the Museum of Jewish Life and Culture, including a 1950s Torah crown created by local craftsmen from improvised materials during a period of religious prohibitions, and a netilat yadayim vessel made from an artillery shell in the late 1940s.
The center thanked the guests for their visit and expressed hope that the meeting would mark the beginning of further partnership.
