A ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Day was held in Tel Aviv on August 31. The Embassy of Ukraine in the State of Israel reported this.
In his speech, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the State of Israel Yevhen Korniychuk called on Israel to join forces in countering common enemies and threats. He said that the aggressor country had continued its attacks against Ukraine for four and a half years, while this year Ukraine had managed to change the situation and bring the war onto Russian territory by striking Russian strategic facilities far from the battlefield.
Korniychuk also thanked the leadership and citizens of the State of Israel for their unwavering support for Ukraine and noted that recently the two sides had been successfully working to develop bilateral relations. The reception was attended by official representatives of the State of Israel, including members of the Knesset, government and Foreign Ministry, as well as diplomats, Ukrainian civic activists, members of Israeli Friends of Ukraine, and friends of Ukraine among Israeli citizens.
Ze’ev Elkin, a minister in the Ministry of Finance of the State of Israel, addressed those present in Ukrainian. Participants observed a minute of silence in memory of Ukraine’s fallen defenders. Guests were also shown Mstyslav Chernov’s Ukrainian documentary film 2000 Meters to Andriivka, which was submitted by Ukraine for the 98th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category and received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the State of Israel thanked the Filmed in Ukraine/Created in Ukraine film club, including Svitlana Kozyrieva and Roman Karasik, for promoting Ukrainian cinema in Israel and assisting with the screening’s organization.
