The State Tourism Development Agency of Ukraine has warned pilgrims planning to travel to Uman for Rosh Hashanah 2026 about the risks of scams related to payment of the tourist tax.
The agency emphasizes that the tourist tax should be paid only through official channels—to the accounts designated by the Uman City Council. Payments through third-party websites, private intermediaries or at a “discounted” fixed rate may cause problems during inspections.
After making the payment, pilgrims are strongly advised to keep the payment document until the end of their stay in Uman. It is the document that confirms the tax was paid officially.
The warning concerns Hasidic pilgrims arriving in the city to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. In 2026, the holiday will take place under martial law, so pilgrims are advised to check in advance not only the safety regulations but also the procedure for officially paying local taxes.
In 2026, the tourist tax in Uman is UAH 432.35 per person per day for accommodation in apartments, residential buildings, rooms, cottages and other similar properties, and UAH 216.18 per person per day for accommodation in hotels, hostels, campgrounds, motels, dormitories, boarding houses and other hotel-type establishments.
