Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has addressed pilgrims planning to travel to Uman for Rosh Hashanah, recommending that they avoid the Medyka–Shehyni border crossing where possible. This is stated in a letter from Poland’s Foreign Ministry.
The ministry explained that extensive modernization work, which began in June, is underway at the crossing. The work is intended to upgrade the infrastructure and increase the crossing’s capacity in the future, but construction currently limits the number of buses that can undergo processing.
The Polish side emphasizes that the situation may become more difficult on the return journey from Uman due to the simultaneous movement of large groups of pilgrims, the rerouting of some traffic to other crossings, and the introduction of the EES system at the EU’s external borders. In previous years, significant queues had already been recorded at the border after Rosh Hashanah ended.
Pilgrims are advised to choose alternative border crossings where possible—Korczowa and Budomierz. In addition, group organizers are encouraged to provide the Polish side in advance with information about the number of people, airports, and entry and exit routes so that the border guard and customs services can better prepare for the increased workload.
